Reclaimed water can contain high densities of microorganisms, which can necessitate frequent monitoring; adding to existing operating costs. The primary purpose of monitoring the occurrence, distribution, abundance, identity and behavior of microorganisms in reclaimed water is to establish the effectiveness of treatment processes and monitor the microbiological changes within the distribution system (Narasimhan et al., 2005; Jjemba et al.,2010). To ensure the continued safety, minimize the health risks from reclaimed water,and meet effluent quality standards,it is necessary during such monitoring to use adequately sensitive and specific methods for detecting microorganisms.
