Copolymers of L-lactide and glycolide (PLG) have been widely investigated as temporary scaffolds for bone and cartilage tissue engineering. Such materials are commercially synthesized with the use of tin compounds as initiators. In our experiments we have been used PLG obtained with a non-toxic initiator, zirconium acetylacetonate [1]. Our PLG was found to behave better in contact with osteoblasts and fibroblasts in vitro than that obtained with tin compound [2]. Several experiments showed that the scaffolds produced from this material support growth of osteogenic cells [3,4].
