This paper treats the estimation of seismic response and evaluation of seismic safety of a 20 story existing RC building, situated in Basel, Switzerland. In the process of generation of the building model, the building (having a height/length ratio 2-2.5) was considered as a tubular structure with a complex cross section equivalent to the story geometry. In order to account for the building nonlinearity features, this building was modeled, under SAP2000, using complex SD frame elements with distributed nonlinearify, spreading from ground to the top of the 20th story. For the purpose of evaluation of seismic safety of the building, there were performed advanced analysis techniques such as nonlinear static (Pushover analysis with inclusion of P-Delta effect) and nonlinear time-history response analysis under real earthquake excitations. Based on integral investigation of seismic response for the 20 sory building, under-the specified seismic hazard characteristic for the building location (PGA=0.08g-0.13g), there were finally drawn the conclusions considering the aspect of building seismic safety.
