Cyclic Shear Resistance of Epoxy Anchors Bonded to Low Strength Concrete

Anchors are used to maintain integrity of structural elements that are separately constructed. They are frequently used for connections especially between reinforced concrete - steel and reinforced concrete - reinforced concrete. Due to increase in the number of strengthening applications of structures in recent years, there is also a considerable increase the use of post-installed anchors. However, limited studies were available on the shear performance of anchors. Besides, no studies were found in existing literature about the performance of anchors embedded to very low strength concrete, i.e. 10MPa or below. This study deals with the cyclic shear strength of epoxy bonded anchors. 18 tests were carried out on anchors embedded to low strength concrete. Results were compared with the ACI318 formulation. It is found that some justifications for shear design of post installed anchors may be needed in case of low strength concrete.
