The 2009 L'Aquila earthquake, which has strongly damaged the historic and artistic heritage of an particularly rich in monumental buildings area of Italy, also produced significant damages in the village of St. Eusanio Forconese, located in the epicentre of the earthquake and characterized not only by beautiful historic residential buildings, but also by a big church, founded in XII century and more damaged by the earthquakes of the XIII, XV and XVII century, and each time rebuilt. This research consisted of realizing an experimental plan of investigation (ultrasonic and thermographic tests), that have provided a set of indicators in support of historical research and of constructive-technical investigation, that demonstrates how the earthquake of 2009 produced damages homologous to those induced by the others historic earthquakes (eg. the facade and. at the apses), to which the restorations of the past had not given a solution finalized to remove the general and local vulnerabilities. This research supported the choices of plan, which will include therefore not only the repair of damages (partial reconstructions, repair of cracks), as done during the restoration of the past, but also interventions of seismic improvements and reduction of vulnerability (metal chains, in breach diatoni).
