This paper presents the results of a 10-m column test with Particlear~(TM)-treated MFT (mature fine tailings). DuPont's Particlear~(TM) is a tailings treatment technology which utilises the in situ polymerisation of silica to stabilise the fluid fine tailings (FFT) and develop strength at low solids content The column test results showed consolidation happened on Particlear~(TM)-treated MFT under its self-weight A numerical analysis based on finite strain consolidation theory was also conducted to simulate the consolidation process of the 10-m column. The predicted results agreed with the measured values over the first 40 days, after which the actual settlement became slower than the predicted. The application of disposing Particlear~(TM)-treated FFT in a deep-pit was also studied numerically and the results are presented in this paper.
