Multi-Actor Simulation requires new ways of User-interface, which determine understanding of simulation by its users. Combining semiotic engineering with MAS for social sustainability has two advantages: working at more than one level and expanding semiotics with non-sign oriented perspectives, and two dangers: using many levels and not-yet developed object-oriented approaches within semiotics. The complexity of the domain of sustainability will lead to an increasingly broad usage of computer simulation. However, early models incorporated little knowledge about individual and social human behavior, limiting the applicability of the models. The world of simulations and its users has not led to understanding the problem domains, nor consequences of societal developments. Adaptation of multi-actor paradigms for computer simulations in the domain of sustainability is expected to circumvent limitation of earlier models, and improve user understanding.
