Removal of Pb2+ ions from a dilute aqueous solution was investigated using the sorption technique. Wool powders proceed from merino wool was used as a sorbent for the removal of Pb2+ ions. The influence of operating parameters such as temperature, contact time, amount of sorbent and pH on the sorption capacity of wool powders were studied in a batch system respectively. From the results, it was seen that higher temperatures lead to increased sorption. Pb2+ ions can be removed rapidly only in first 20 min and longer times result in little increased sorption. As pH is increased, Pb2+ ions sorption increases with pH up to a pH of approximately 5.57; above pH 5.57, solid lead salts are precipitated. Additionally, amount of wool powders plays a very important role in Pb2+ ions sorption. The Pb2+ ions sorption is optimum when the amount of wool powder is 8.0 g/L.
