Low torque yarn spinning technology has been developed to reduce, even remove the residual torque of singles ring yarns which is the fundamental cause of skewness of denim fabrics and spirality of plain knitted fabrics. In the present paper, such a novel technology was introduced by its application on woolen and cotton spinning systems. Besides the principle of the spinning, the physical properties of wool yarns and cotton yarns were examined by comparing with the yarns produced with conventional spinning technology mainly in terms of wet snarling, yarn tenacity and hairiness. Experimental results indicated that the wet snarling of singles yarn was greatly reduced in the low torque manufacturing technology. Furthermore, the hairiness for low torque yarns is significantly less than that of ring spun yarns. Meanwhile, the low torque singles yarn can keep relatively high tenacity even the low twist level was adopted.
