摘要

Chemical legislation is becoming something of a hot topic around the world; in addition to the implementation of the REACh Regulation and the Classification, Labelling and Packaging Regulation in Europe, many other countries, e.g., America, Canada, China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Serbia, Taiwan, Turkey and Switzerland are either developing new- or updating their current chemicals legislation to meet modern demands. There are similarities between the different legislative instruments but essentially each country or region has gone their own way and is developing their legislation to meet local requirements rather than looking to use one common framework. The United Nations encouraged the implementation of the Globally Harmonised System (GHS) for the classification and labelling of chemicals around the world but, because countries haven't implemented it as it was written, significant differences remain in the way chemicals are classified and Europe is no different in this respect. Grasping the nettle of harmonisation now would have benefited everyone in the supply chain but as it stands companies will have to continue to monitor developments in each country closely in order to ensure compliance.
