Intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) is commonly seen in small animal clinics. The clinical signs of IVDD are back or neck pain, trouble walking, lameness, trouble urinating, paresis and/or paralysis. Disc herniation (a "slipped disc") may result in a sudden onset of signs. This can happen in dogs of any age or breed. The incidence of IVDD is about 2% of all dogs, but 25% in the Dachshund population. ' Other breeds with a high incidence of IVDD include Bassett hounds, Corgis, Dobermans, Pekingese, French Bulldogs, Miniature Poodles, and Beagles.
