A comparative evaluation of MS-base methods proposed for the analysis of HNE demonstrated the distinct advantage of LC-MS techniques over GC-MS methods in terms of sensitivity and simplicity. DNPH derivatization followed by LC-MS/MS analysis has been successfully applied for the quantification of HNE from biological samples.
