Chinese herbal drugs have been used in east Asia for a long time, but many of their molecular behavior in living bodies have not been clarified since they contain many compounds. In this research, we used the "Live Single-Cell Mass Spectrometry" method to analyze molecular localization in a cell. This method allows us to trap cellular content directly from specific part of single cell under observation with a microscope. By using this method, we study localization of compounds of Chinese herbal drugs in cell membrane, cytoplasm and vacuole. The elucidation of molecular localization unveils the mechanisms of action of Chinese herbal drugs.
