Automated GC/MS data analysis of explosives can be performed in less than 3 minutes using both retention time and mass spectrometry values. SPME headspace and liquid immersion allow for a simple method of introducing explosives into the GC/MS. Deconvolution using mass/charge values is useful in interferents for these fast GC/MS analysis times. Low microgram quantities of solid explosives can be recovered from a surface using a swab, dissolved in solvent and analyzed by liquid immersion. Thermal decomposition can occur and be reduced by introduction of solvent with the explosive.
