Kinetic modeling of VGO hydrotreatment requires a detailed characterization of VGO cuts. The identification of nitrogen containing compounds that are the most refractory compounds towards HDT is particularly a great challenge. A combined approach with FTMS and HT-GCxGC gave useful qualitative and quantitative information on the distribution of these compounds. The methodology and the developments presented here, open up exciting perspectives for a better understanding and modeling of the reactions involved in VGO HDT.
