N~8-acetylspermidine was greater in thermogenic cells and has previously been linked with acetylation of genes and proteins. We hypothesize that the increased levels of N~8-acetylspermidine in thermogenic cells may be linked to acetylation of proteins that regulate thermogenic activity. Future direction Meta-analysis is underway of metabolomics data where cells were treated with known inducers of thermogenesis (insulin and cyclic AMP) in BAs but not WAs, and metabolites that correlate with thermogenic activity will be identified.
