摘要

This unique pair of chemolithoautotrophs thrive near deep sea hydrothermal vents, utilizing vent -expelled elemental sulfur and CO2 to sustain their metabolic overhead. Although no host -derived benefits have yet been discovered, the association is believed to grant the pair a competitive advantage in regards to resource sequestration. Both or ganisms have evolved compact genomes that, even when combined, are smaller than most microorganisms. Owing to it s highly reduced genome, Ne requires Ih for survival. However, little is known about their association both in regards to the actual attachment and/or transfer of host -derived macromolecules and metabolites.
