Understanding how plants sense and respond to water deficit is a complex biological problem that is important for our ability to engineer crops with enhanced drought resistance. Drought environments are commonly simulated by hyperosmo-c growth condi-ons in the laboratory as a controlled system for inducing water deficit (Figure 1).
