1. A new method for producing singly-charged analytes has been demonstrated. 2. The analyte charge distribution can be controlled by translating the ESI capillary to change the distance to the inlet orifice. 3. Charge reduction occurs through surface collision induced droplet neutralization followed by droplet-droplet charge transfer. 4. Because the neutralization occurs while the analyte is imbedded in the solvent. Neutralization and charge redistribution are solvent defined. 5. Charge state concentrations map each other.
