High resolution ESI-IM-MS can identify different conformers from a single peptide or protein at different solvent compositions. Characterizing multiple conformers is difficult to obtain from traditional methods including NMR. ESI generates multiply charged ions which separate on different trendlines in the 2D IM-MS, thus reducing spectral congestions and increasing mobility resolution.
