The data have shown that the stable-isotope labeled reagents are able to successfully quantify changes in glycan ion abundance in a simple mixture. Additionally, the tags are compatible with glycans cleaved from plasma proteins, and using an internal standard can correct for a majority of the systematic error in the sample preparation. The width of the distributions show that as little as a 30percent change in plasma glycan abundance may be statistically detected by this method. Future studies will apply these quantification methods to study the up- and down-regulation of N-linked glycans during the onset of ovarian cancer.
