The addition of IPR'S to the sample enabled simultaneous chromatographic retention of both acidic and basic analytes with sensitivity enhancement of the basic compounds, while maintaining acids analytes performance. Criteria for IPR rational selection, were specified: 1. The R.T of the Analytes should be higher than 2 X void time (according to the European Community criteria). 2.The mask retention window should be minimal and should not co-elute with the target analytes. 3. The analytes intensities should be maximal. While the classic Ion Pair method, based on adding the IPR into the mobile phase, is dedicated only to RP Ion Pair chromatography, the potential to use volatile IPR's as an additive to the sample was demonstrated to be efficient for Alternate RP and RP Ion Pair chromatography.
