A Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometric Method for the Determination of Eicosanoid Profiles in Human Colon Biopsies

摘要

Quantification of eicosanoids in colonic biopsy samples is challenging due to limited sample size and matrix interference. A liquid chromatography-mass spectrometric method has a higher selectivity and sensitivity than HPLC-UV or HPLC-electrochemical detection for quantification. The LC-MS-MS method works well for single-run quantification of products from both COX and LOX in colon biopsy samples. The profiling eicosanoids by LC/MS/MS in colonic biopsies of limited sample size is proving valuable to evaluate the preventive effects of Mediterranean diet on biomarkers of colon cancer risk.
