Moxifloxacin was clearly observed in the tissue sections analyzed. However, ion suppression was high and normalizing against the matrix is not ideal as not all suppression factors are accounted (Figure 1). Moxifloxacin readily penetrates into the granuloma within a relatively short post-dose time period. Clear accumulation above the surrounding tissue was observed in samples harvested >90 mins post-dose (Figure 1A). Granuloma, granuloma margin, and healthy lung tissue were shown to have clearly different lipid profiles which may have consequences for the uptake of selected drugs into the granuloma (Figure 2). The success of this application indicates the vast potential of MSI for the imaging of drug distrubution in biological tissues for which alternative methods do not exist.
