Modeling of Doha Power Plant Outfall in Kuwait Bay

Kuwait Bay (KB) is located at the north western corner of the Arabian Gulf and accommodates many industrial and commercial activities. Several power and desalination plants discharge effluents into the bay. The Doha east and Doha west plants are the main power producers in Kuwait located well in the bay. The activities taking place in KB have resulted in serious marine damages to the fish species in KB over the recent years. Recent studies have shown that the sea water temperature in KB is increasing with a rate higher than the global values. Thus it is important to model the impact of the discharge effluents in the bay. This paper provides the validation of a model for the water temperature in KB. The RMA-10 model is used to predict the water temperature and the dispersion of thermal plumes based on the meteorological and tidal data. Satellite image and field measurement are used for the model validation.
