The wave transmission coefficient of low-crested structures (LCS) is formulated as the summation of wave energy transmitted over and through LCS. Transmission over LCS is estimated with empirical fitting to Tanaka's design diagram based on laboratory tests, while transmission through LCS is estimated with Numata's semi-empirical formula. Application of the new formula to 851 laboratory data of the transmission coefficient from 14 datasets has yielded the mean difference of 0.019 in the absolute value of transmission coefficient with the standard deviation of 0.088 and the determination coefficient of r2 = 0.865.
