Land-based 3D seismic surveys frequently cover multiple broad acre and small hobby farm properties.To achieve optimal 3D subsurface coverage,the participation of all landholdings in the survey footprint,where environmental considerations allow access,is ideal.For farm properties,financial payments and/or fence and farm-track repair is the usual means employed by seismic contractors to compensate farmers for disruption to farm activities and infrastructure from prolonged access for large area cable and cable-less geophone spreads and multiple vibrator operations,but not all landholders may regard this as sufficient to be persuaded to allow access for 3D seismic acquisition.What if the seismic survey data QA/QC process generated beneficial information related to spatial soil properties for the landholder,might that not be an additional incentive to participate,to the mutual benefit of all? This paper examines preliminary evidence for that possibility to become a reality.
