China - Ready: Is the Global Technology Toolkit Sufficient for China?

In the last decades the competition for engine technology was contended between US, Japan and Europe. In US mainly Gasoline engines with higher displacement were developed, in Japan Hybrids were in the focus and in Europe the Diesel engine was continuously improved. In the last few years a new player entered the race for technology: China. Due to very stringent legislation on both emission - e.g. PN - and CO_2 China was forced to quickly catch up in technology. In addition to that the Chinese market became more demanding. China is the only really growing market. Production numbers in China are higher than in US or Europe. Chinese customers want top of the line products - similar to US, Japan and Europe. With the latest proposals for China 6, the question arises whether China will become the driving force in emission development. These requirements might lead to the outcome that the real driver for technology will be China. Any technology that is developed needs to be fit for China. So the question arises: is the global technology toolkit sufficient for China? A technology toolkit is required that not only can comply with Chinese requirements, but that is really focused on China. The paper describes a technology lineup that is China - ready without losing the focus on US or Europe.
