Insect neuropeptides of the insect kinin class share a common C-terminal pentapeptide sequence Phe~1-Xaa_!~2-Xaa_2~3-Trp~4-Gly~5-NH2 (Xaa_1~2 = His, Asn, Phe, Ser or Tyr; Xaa_2~3 = Pro, Ser or Ala) and have been isolated from various insects. It has been reported that this peptide family can regulate such critical physiological processes as water and ion balance, hindgut motility and digestive enzyme release in insects.
