The results of an experimental investigation on the characteristics of hydraulic jump on artificially rough bed channel are reported. The experiments were conducted under different flow discharges over square cross strips with varying openings and heights. In the experimental program wooden strips were cut and imposed across a stilling basin. During the investigation different roughness elements were considered with five distinct openings and two heights. The rough bed stilling basin was then subjected to three different supercritical flows. In total, 210 experiments were performed where the Froude number was ranged from 2.98 to 9.89 where the sequent depth, energy loss and shear force coefficient were studied. It was found that the sequent depth of hydraulic jump is considerably decreasing compared with smooth beds. It was also observed that the sequent depth decreases as the opening of rough elements increases. However, the height of roughness elements did not show any considerable effect on the characteristics of hydraulic jump. Some relationships were expressed to estimate the characteristics of the hydraulic jump on rough bed stilling basins.
