Highly asymmetric microporous membranes of poly(sulfone) have been prepared using a combination of the vapor-induced phase separation (VIPS) and non-solvent-induced phase separation (NIPS) process for a variety of applications such as water treatment, cell culture, and fermentation. After a polymer solution composed of polymer, solvent, and additives was cast on the cooled stainless plate, the cast film was exposed under the controlled humid air for desirable time before immersing into D.I water as a coagulant. The structure of prepared membranes was examined in detail using capillary flow porometry and FE-SEM together with the corresponding microfiltration performance such as water flux and dirt-holding capacity (DHC).
