In this paper we have investigated the performance of cables containing Corning's latest single-mode fiber, and compared this performance to legacy fiber. This latest fiber combines lower attenuation and better bend performance in a single fiber design that complies fully to both ITU-T G.652.D and G.657. A1 Recommendations. We have found that Corning's latest single-mode fiber outperforms established fiber in certain cable designs under environmental and mechanical testing due to improved intrinsic attenuation, macrobend loss, and microbend loss. The maximum attenuation of this new fiber is reduced to 0.18 dB/km at 1550 nm (0.02 dB/km lower than typical single-mode fiber) while maintaining a nominal Mode Field Diameter (MFD) of 9.2μm at 1310 nm and improving bend performance to deliver ≤ 0.50 dB loss for 1 turn around a 10 mm radius mandrel at 1550 nm.
