Measuring flow profiles in horizontal wells is challenging due to limitations with the traditional center sampling production logging tools, as the acquired data may not accurately describe multiphase inflow in complex wellbore condition. With the advancement of technology, multi sensors and full bore measure- ment tools are better equipped to assist us in problem diagnosis. This paper describes the complexity involved in reservoir management in a highly heterogeneous naturally fractured carbonate reservoir, of an onshore-Abu Dhabi oil field. The field is considerably mature, where reliable production behavior & saturation monitoring of wells plays a vital role for proper reservoir management and helps to update static-dynamic models. This paper presents our experience with open-hole and ICD completed horizontal wells that deployed varieties of technological advancements. Interpretation and operational challenges are highlighted and discussed from different well completion setups which leads to lessons learnt and way forward plan for optimized reservoir management. To minimize potential misinterpretation and enhance our understanding of well and reservoir behavior, three different integrated production logging setups were logged. The first setup includes multiple sensors with 6 micro spinners and 12 resistivity-capacitance arrays distributed around the circumference of the hole which provide localized measurements in the borehole volume. The second setup was to include a pulsed neutron tool that provides nuclear response over a larger volume, images the total holdup and measures water flow covering the borehole including annular region of the wellbore. The third integration was high resolution temperature and noise logs that were aimed to provide cross flow and packer’s isolation examination, fracture characterization and to pinpoint fluid entries. This comprehensive evaluation has led us to determine the best action plan towards optimal logging technology selection, program design as per different operational, completion and reservoir challenges, to achieve our goal of improved reservoir characterization and production performance.
