A new family of permanent, nonmigrating antistatic agents for polyolefines with the tradename Entira(TM) Antistatic has been developed . These antistatic agents are ideal for the use in polyolefin based multilayer structures and maintain transparency and optical properties while only minimally influencing sealing properties. They allow to be concentrated in specific discrete layers of the multilayer structure and avoid problems of migration from one layer into another due to their polymeric character. The excellent compatibility with polyolefines eliminates also to a large extent problems of die drool that are usually experienced with polymeric antistatic additive that have poor compatibility with polyolefines, without the need for adding a compatibiliser. Data are presented that show that using a permanent antistatic agent in a part of a multilayer structure that is hidden from the surface will lead to good antistatic properties despite its absence from the surface. The antistatic properties in this case are however then limited to static decay of the structure and will not be reflected in low surface resistivity This is a function that cannot be achieved by migrating antistatic agents that are conventionally in polyolefines in multilayer structures.
