Thirty-six adult female albino rats of the Wistar lineage were used at the Federal University at Santa Catarina (UFSC). High cohesion (vulcanized shell) silicone gel implants in the shape of a cap were used - 18 were coated with polyurethane foam and 18 lined with textured silicone. We sought to characterize and present an experimental model - with precise and reproducible localization - for implantation of mini silicone prostheses that were covered or not with polyurethane in Wistar rats: the access route is the middle third of the dorsal region (in the podo-cephalic direction) which is cannot be reached by the animals' rear or front paws.
