Dental Implants in Patients with Cleft Lip, Alveolus and Palate in Riga Cleft Lip and Palate Centre

The aim was to evaluate the success of dental implants inserted in bone grafted alveolar cleft region in patients treated in Riga Cleft Centre. From 2001 till December 2008 a total of 18 single implants (FRIADENT Implant Systems ANKYLOS and XIVE) were placed in 17 cleft patients (seven females, ten males) with age range at the time of implantation from 18 to 31 years. For control came eight of these patients. In all of them implants had successful clinical and roentgenological osseointegration, remained in situ and stable (not less than six months after restoration). In spite of some objective esthetical limitations and necessity for additional bone grafting all patients showed high satisfaction level with results. The use of dental implants in cleft patients is a safe and predictable treatment method for dental gap closure.
