摘要

The goal of this paper is to demonstrate the similarity in different systems used to control water quality in wastewater and aquaculture systems, yet, to emphasize the differences between the two systems. We believe that though we deal with two different disciplines, joint understanding and work could gain a lot. The systems will be compared as to their loading capacities, aeration efficiencies and devices, recycling of organics and nutrients and economy. The major goal of wastewater treatment is torelease water with minimal health and environmental risks. In the aquaculture industry, the major goal is to maintain good water quality in ponds so as not to negatively affect fish productivity, though criteria of water released to the environment are also relevant. Water quality demands in aquaculture are more stringent than for secondary treated municipal wastewater, mostly due to the toxic effects of even very low concentrations of ammonia on fish.
