摘要

Fast full wave computation of fields is the main reason for radio system planner to apply Parabolic Equation Method (PEM) for radio coverage planning. In this paper, the capability of PEM for determination of backward electromagnetic field scattering by knife-edge is investigated. In the vicinity of edge, the field is approximated, similar to Fresnel-Kirchoff assumption for forward propagation. Then the field in the whole domain of problem is computed by PEM. Computation results are compared with results of UTD method for knife-edge scattering. It is seen that the results of UTD and PE coincide in the vicinity of horizon. However, far from the horizon the results of these methods differ.
