The use of carbon dioxide as a refrigerant has seen increasing interest in recent years due to the fact that carbon dioxide is a green refrigerant without damage to the ozone layer. As a result, there is also a lack of familiarity with this refrigerant applied in heat pump systems. To better understand the use of carbon dioxide, experimental studies of the performance of a carbon dioxide heat pump system for hot water heating were conducted in this communication.Experimental tests were implemented under two different temperatures of inlet water of the gas cooler to observe relationships between high side pressures and coefficients of performance of the heat pump system. These experimental results would provide the insight for the improvement of the COP of carbon dioxide heat pump systems.
