Recent changes in regulatory standards, such as those of CARB and EPA, require that fuel tanks for small off-road engines have permeation limits that are an order of magnitude lower that what is commonly seen in the industry today. Additionally, these tanks must be mechanically robust in all end-use environments, where low temperature impact and ethanol resistance is required. New polyester compositions presented here, when used in the production of tanks, will produce molded articles having excellent low temperature impact, ethanol resistance, and low fuel permeability that will exceed the requirements set forth in CARB and EPA standards. An additional benefit to end-users is the elimination of costly secondary processing operations, such as fluorination and multi-layer molding.
