As demonstrated by the chapter 11 filings of energy giants Enron and Calpine, and the more-recent plethora of chapter 11 filings by smaller exploration and production companies, energy companies are not immune from financial difficulties. When this happens, the highly specialized area of oil and gas law is overlayed with the equally specialized law of chapter 11, creating unique problems for both oil and gas and restructuring lawyers.
