A Stirling type pulse tube cryocooler (PTC) with precooling was designed andmanufactured to investigate the cooling performance of a 4 K Stirling type PTC.This paper focuses on the performance of the 4 K stage regenerator of the Stirlingtype PTC and how the use of helium-3 in place of helium-4 can improve theperformance of a 4 K regenerator. The effects of pressure ratio, operating pressure,warm-end temperature and regenerator matrix on the 4 K stage regenerator of theStirling type PTC were investigated based on the regenerator simulation modelREGEN3.3.
