The Eh-pH diagram of lithium-titanium-water system at 25 °C, 100 °C and 200 °C was constructed. It shows that there exist thermodynamic stability areas of Li_2TiO_3. This indicates a thermodynamic possibility for the formation of Li_2TiO_3 in aqueous solution. A hydrothermal process has been applied for the preparation of Li_2TiO_3 using TiCl_4 and LiOH-H_O as raw materials. The prepared samples were examined with X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and thermo-gravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry. The results show that temperature and washing condition have significant effects on the phase composition of the product. Phase-pure Li_2TiO_3 powders were obtained at 200°C with Li:Ti molar ratio of 2.0.
