GREEN CHEMISTRY: A NECESSARY STEP TO A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

The pursuit of knowledge and the development of technology have had an interesting and complicated relationship throughout history. The dependency of one upon the other and the simultaneous independence of one upon the other can be seen as paradoxical. Human society has developed institutions for purposes of facilitation, creation, dissemination or control (in one form or another) with respect to knowledge and technology. Academia, government and industry have historically played important roles in the development and use—and thus the relationship—between knowledge and technology. More recently, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have begun to have significant impact as well.
