With the increase in product imports and the need for storing specialty chemicals, some terminals are in the process of expanding to provide additional capacity. There are several options for expanding your terminal: acquiring/leasing additional property, acquiring another terminal, or developing/redeveloping your terminal property. In all of these cases, you can incur environmental liabilities if contamination is discovered during the construction of your new terminal facilities. In addition to the environmental remediation liabilities, you can also incur loss of operating revenue, penalties, compliance costs, permit transfer problems, and local government and public scrutiny.
