Microstructure has a very strong influence on the Sulfide Stress Cracking (SSC) of high strengthsteels and on its own place is affected by factors such as the type and condition of heat treatments applied.This article focuses on the history of development regarding hardenability measurement methods & testingcriteria and discusses methods for producing tubular goods and optimal ways for creating H2S resistantmicrostructure. The article also takes the advantages of the API-5CT standard specifications to introduceoptimized test methods, defined on the basis of hardenability to select the best product specification levels(PSL) suitable for the sour environments, the goods are to be used in.
