Umbilical surgeries are frequent in cattle. The most frequent condition is the umbilical hernia. The principals of a herniorraphy are relatively simple. Other umbilical surgeries involving the embryonic internal structures or an incarcerated abdominalorgan are technically more challenging. This presentation will focus on those challenging umbilical surgeries. First, the use of the ultrasound in the pre-operative period will be discussed. Second, anesthesia of those calves will be discussed in regards to their size and the length and difficulty of the procedure. Finally, the surgery and its post-operative management will be discussed.
