NEW HORIZONS IN EPILEPSY DIAGNOSIS THERAPY

Advanced diagnostic imaging techniques have already revolutionized the practice of veterinary and human neurology and neurosurgery. Beginning with computed tomography (CT) and then magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), imaging techniques providing accurate spatial representation of the brain and other parts of the nervous system are now indispensable for quality neurology practice. These techniques have allowed the identification of intracranial pathology of varying etiologies and guided therapeutic intervention for these same disease processes. As a result, therapies for symptomatic epilepsy have dramatically improved (e.g., brain tumors). However, imaging advances have also redefined the management of other forms of epilepsy and will continue to do so in the future.
