For the design of machine tools, a number of optimization tools have been developed in order to optimize these mechatronic systems in regard to their required static, dynamic and thermal behavior. Components and drives are optimized using FEM or simulations in the time domain. The changing requirements concerning productivity and developments in the area of the machine tools changed the focus of the research activities towards optimization of dynamic properties.
