The most important objective behind the utilization of the EGNOS system in aviation is the achievement of a complete operational implementation in all phases of flight, especially in the approach phase, where the main objective is to perform RNAV GNSS approaches down LPV minima. Most efforts are focused on promoting the adoption of EGNOS by interested end users of identified niche markets. Therefore, the main activities in Europe have focused so far on regional airlines, business and general aviation, as well as helicopter operators. Aiming at supporting the introduction of EGNOS and Galileo services in the aviation market, the first GIANT project targeting the "GNSS Introduction in the Aviation Sector" was born in 2005 and ended successfully in October 2008. The Project main objective was to show economic and operational benefits to end users while demonstrating to the responsible authorities that the required safety levels are maintained or improved.
